Hike to Altar Rock ( 裏山ハイキング )

We went hiking up our hill to Altar Rock.

Millennium has been there several times before but this was my first time today.

Altar Rock is the big one, in the middle, large wide rock on top of the hill.

朝から裏山にハイキングに出かけました。

ミレニアムは何度か行っているのですが、私は今日が初めて☆

後ろの右側に見える幅の広い岩、オルター岩まで登ります！

The trail is going through the brush.

It is very mysterious.

ブッシュの中に続く小径。

わくわくします♪

The first lookout.

最初のルックアウト。

オハイの町とキャッスル岩が見渡せる。

Oh....ohhh....

This is wild trail!

ん〜。。。これはちょっと藪小径だぞ〜☆

We reached Alter Rock after an hour walking up the hill.

The view is amazing!

We can see whole view of Lake Casitas.

一時間ほどで目指すオルター岩に到着☆

ここからの眺めは絶景☆

向こう側のカシタス湖まで見渡せるんだね。

This ONE HUGE rock is about the size of 2 soccer fields!

巨大な一枚岩☆　サッカー場２つ分くらいの広さはあるって！

Nice breeze...

心地いい風。。。

This is just like an alligator! This little rock stands on top of Altar Rock.

お〜これはワニにそっくりだ〜☆

この岩はオルター岩の上に乗っている小さい岩。（小さいとはいえ、大きいが。。。）

New Life

Our friends invited us for dinner.

We met them last summer at the organic store where I work. 

This summer they're working on some farm projects.

When we got there, she was giving two baby goats a walk.

She showed us their orchard and garden.

They have about 50 chickens too.

The land where they are staying is located on the top of a hill and has a lovely view.

We sat together for dinner at the picnic table looking down their orchard.

They are very delightful and energetic.

I'm excited to see their new life.

先日、オハイに住む友だち夫婦の家へ遊びにいってきました。

彼らとは昨年夏、私の働いているオーガニックのお店で一緒だったのがきっかけで仲良くなりました。フランス人の奥さんはアメリカとフランスを行き来していたのですが２ヶ月ほど前にこちらへ戻ってきて、ここ丘の上のファームで新しく生活を始めたところ。

私たちが着いたとき、彼女はちょうど２匹の子やぎをお散歩させているところでした。

これから果樹園やファームでいろいろな果物や野菜を試験栽培してみるのだそう。

新しいにわとりも５０羽ほどいてなんだかとても活気があって楽しそう。

夕方になると丘の上からの景色がとても素敵で、景色を見下ろしながら外のピクニックテーブルで夕食。とてもたのしいひとときでした。

新しい生活を始めた彼らはとても輝いていて素敵でした☆

Redwood Tree （レッドウッドの木）

Millennium loves Redwood Trees.

It's one of his favorite trees.

It looks a lot like Christmas tree.

He showed me how to distinguish Redwood Trees.

As the name implies, the trunk is slightly red in color, but it's not obvious.

Here is a particular point you can see...

all the branches come out 90 degrees from the trunk.

Aha... right, it's interesting.

Maybe it's fun to learn about trees!

ミレニアムはレッドウッドの木が大好きです。

日本名ではセコイアとかセコイアメスギと呼ばれるスギ科の木なのだそう。

カリフォルニアの北部はレッドウッドで有名なのですが、ここオハイでもたまに見かけます。

見た感じはクリスマスツリーになる　”もみの木”　に似ているような気もします。

先日、ミレニアムがレッドウッドの木の見分け方を教えてくれました。

まず名前からもわかるように木の幹が赤いのが特徴。

確かに他の木と比べたら幹がいくぶん赤褐色ね。

でもこれは見た感じではあまりわからない。

次に　”あ〜なるほど☆”　と納得の特徴がもう一つ。

それは木の枝が幹から90度の角度で生えているというもの。

ほんとうだ。。。どの枝も幹からまっすぐ90度に横に向かって伸びてる。

おもしろいなぁ。。。地元のいろいろな木のことを少し調べてみたら楽しいかも♪

Album（アルバムっていいね。）

I've finally started to organize our photos from the Japan Trip. Gooosh... there's a lot!

We took about 1,000 photos during our 6 weeks in Japan. We thought we would briefly skim through them, to find some to print. But we found 100 photos to print already, and will probably print a hundred more.

We printed them yesterday and got an album to put them in. I like photo albums.

Even though it's easy to organize them on a computer these days, I still love to have an album.

Even though we can store thousands of photos on the computer and show them on the screen as a slide show, I prefer to have an album. A photo album is fun to show to friends and I can take it anywhere I want.

Now, I'll show you a few of our photos from Japan.

日本から帰ってきて２週間がすぎ、ようやく写真の整理を始めました。

いや、よく撮ったものだ。

６週間で約1,000コマもありました。

ぱ〜っと見て気にいったものだけ20〜30選んでプリントしてみよう！っと思ったらぱっと見でも100コマ近くになってしまいました。アルバムを買って、早速プリントしたものを差し込んでみる。

ん〜アルバムって好き♡世の中これだけデジタル化しててもやっぱり写真はアルバムがいい。

デジカメの画像をコンピューターに取り込んでスクリーンでスライドショーとかもできるんだけどやっぱりアルバムにはかなわない。

それでは少しばかりご紹介しま〜す。

My twin nephew and niece, Shoma and Saki.

They became four in July.

They are JUST so cute!

双子の甥っ子、姪っ子♡翔磨と早葵。この７月で４歳になりました。
かわいい♡の一言に尽きます。

Today's Weather

We bicycled today to Lake Casitas.

It's a beautiful place to bicycle and it always has nice cool air around the lake. There were lots of people having fun camping.

At the Lake store, we found this interesting sign! Today is obviously Sunny!


自転車で近くのカシタス湖へサイクリングへ出かけた。
ここは家から１０分ほど。湖の周りはキャンプサイトになっていて、いつもきれいに整備されている上、
湖からくる風はいつもフレッシュでとても爽やか。
夏休みということもあって大勢の人たちがキャンプを楽しんでいました。

園内にある売店の入り口でおもしろい看板を発見！
看板の左側に石がつるさがっています。

Something to Care

When we went to Japan, we gave up our garden because there is a serious summer water shortage. We feel strange NOT having a garden. It was always so close to us. So now we are looking for new things to do outdoors here.

Our bamboo chimes, hanging over the picnic table, were broken and old looking. They looked lonely without the passionfruit vines that used to cover them with green all over. We cleaned the chimes and mended them, and started to paint. It was surprisedly fun.

Here, the bamboo chimes became Rainbow chimes!

ここ数年の干ばつの影響で水不足なので、日本へ行ったのを機にこの夏は野菜畑をしばらく休むことにしました。今まで畑があまりにも身近な存在だったので、畑なしの生活は生活の一部がすっぽり抜け落ちたようでおかしい。

何か畑の代わりにすることはないかな。。。
そういえば庭のピクニックテーブルの上につるしてあった竹のチャイム、古くなってもう壊れかけてたなぁ。以前はパッションフルーツの緑に覆われていたいたのに、今はぽつんと寂しそう。。。

そこでミレニアムの提案でチャイムをきれいにしてペイントすることにしました。始めてみると思いのほか楽しい☆古い竹のチャイムは新しく虹色に生まれ変わりました。
